SLOVENIA, September 16 - Science, technology and innovation are vital in addressing development challenges and creating solutions for a more sustainable future. Strengthening knowledge and local capacities is an important part of efforts towards inclusive and sustainable development.

Within the framework of development cooperation, Slovenia uses its knowledge and expertise in partnerships that support local needs, thereby contributing to long-term, sustainable solutions. Slovenian research institutions, universities, businesses and organisations play a key role in these efforts by transferring their knowledge and technologies to partner countries.

Slovenia’s development cooperation in the fields of science, technology and innovation is carried out in partnership with countries such as Kenya and Uganda. In Kenya, a Slovenian project uses satellite technology and digital models to support the monitoring and management of river basins, and to help communities adapt to droughts and floods. In Uganda, Slovenia has used satellite data and digital solutions to upgrade the water infrastructure management system, enabling more effective investment planning for the drinking water supply. In the field of sustainable agriculture, a Slovenian project in Kenya is helping to reduce the use of antibiotics, improve soil and water quality, as well as strengthen the capacities of local communities through technology, knowledge transfer and training. Through such cooperation, Slovenia promotes the exchange of knowledge and experiences while strengthening the partnership between Slovenian and local specialist institutions.
